Daily Individual Care
The Individual Horse
Although they live in a herd, each horse has a past and a medical history. Therefor we see and treat them as individuals to meet their unique needs. May that be medication, a supplement, rug or fly-mask management or any other kind of special time and attention, we make it possible. We truly care for all horses as if they were our own.
Daily Health Check
We check and spend time with each horse on a daily basis. We get to know your horse and their vitals and pay close attention to their health and well-being. Any abnormalities or unusual behaviour will be detected right away. In addition to caring for the horses in person, we have installed cctv to keep an eye on them at all times.
Exercising
We motivate the herd on a daily basis to travel along the tracks as far as their bodies allow, without depriving them from their daily forage requirements. With strategic placement of resources, we are able to keep most horses fit without the need to work them. Some ''easykeepers'' however, do benefit from additional exercise. A gentle training program will be established, including hand-walking, groundwork and lunging, to improve flexibility, range of motion and balance and to reduce stiffness, muscle soreness, swelling and inflammation.
Barefoot Hoof Care
Horses at Sandy Hills are strictly barefoot. With our experience and expertise we can comfortably transition your horse. With the amount of movement over a variety of surfaces, as mother nature intended, our horses are doing most of the work by self-trimming. Only non-invasive maintenance trims, carried out by our trusted hoof care practitioner, are necessary with the goal of your horse growing strong, healthy, rock crunching hooves, free of inflammation with all pillars of support - active wear points - intact. During transition, your horse will be closely monitored and their hooves checked and cleaned daily. We pay close attention to their comfort and pain levels and provide Hoof Boots if necessary.
Grooming
Each horse will be groomed head to hoof on a regular basis. Although horses living in a herd environment, when given the chance, are well able to take care of their own skin - by grooming each other, scratching on trees or rolling in the mud and sand - they may not be able to reach certain areas. Additional grooming gives us, as their caretakers, a chance to check in on the horses well-being as well as feel for any pain or discomfort.
Clipping & Bathing
One indoor and two outdoor grooming stations are available for our liveries to groom, clip and bathe their horses, or if preferred, we offer clipping & bathing as additional service. View availability & prices for more details on what we offer and our livery packages.
